You found an, uhm, exceptional case.  Try:

   d''8 e'' f'' d'' e'' f'' f''^\prall e''16 f'' |

If an autobeam still exists when a manual beam is
started, I decided that the whole autobeam be junked.
This seemed as an easy way to overrule the autobeamer.
I don't really consider it a bug, because it was done
intentionally: let's call it a thinko.

Anyway, it seems not desirable, and quite non-intuitive 
behaviour.  This will be fixed in .3
