One might also consider that Dabul is a stone’s throw from the nearest
beach Chowpatty, hence the stranded or aground adjectives that indicate if
your ship ran aground you would be in proximity to Dabul.

Wonder whether that seagoing  connection resulted in Dabul becoming a
significant settlement area for East Indian Catholics from the time of
Portuguese Bombay and for Goan Catholics during the era of British Bombay.
