Selma,

I'm uncertain what exactly you are getting at: Whether (in your case) you
are disheartened about the dilution of your culture because you live far
away from Goa (your family) or whether you refer to Diasporic Goans in
general, who have since gone on to lose some/all traits of their culture
and/or roots due to their assimilation (Basilio) or multiculturalism
(Gilbert) they espouse.

This is a heart-breaking issue for many communities/societies where the
latter day barrage of "in your face" consumerism is making its own contours
on our societies. It seems a losing battle to try and withstand the series
of tsunamis coming at us from all sides. And I can only think of one person
responsible for this. No, not Rupert Murdoch! But the man who invented the
telephone - a Canadian named Alexander Graham Bell.

Can we forsee the day when Sikhs will no longer be identified by their
turbans? And in Punjab itself ?

Maybe distinct societies (Goan) are headed towards being hordes of
replicants; like those manufactured by Tyrell (Blade Runner, 1982).

Best - B
