Sporting Clube, Dempo SC win
Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo Sports Club registered wins in their
respective encounters in the Goa Pro League matches played on Thursday.
While the Golden Eagles eased past Bardez FC 2-0, Flaming Oranje
struggle against Velsao Sports and Cultural Club before registering a
narrow 1-0 win at Rosary ground, Navelim.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 38th minute through Marcus
Mascarenhas who brilliantly headed in George D’Souza curling free-kick
that had no answer from the rival keeper.
Sporting Clube received a blow in the second half when their star
striker was subbed off early in the second session after the Assolda lad
strained his hand. He was replaced by young Akeraj Martins, but the
latter’s presence couldn't influence the game as the score line remained
1-0 till the final whistle.
At the Duler Stadium, Dempo Sports Club recorded a 2-0 win against a
determined Bardez FC.
The first half witnessed end to end affair but neither teams could break
the deadlock as Beevan and Co came close to scoring in the first
session.
Crossing over, Dempo SC took the lead in the 47th minute through Beevan
D’Mello. The former Salgaocar FC striker nodded in a perfect Joaquim
Abranches delivery from the left flank.
Once up by a goal, there was no stopping for Dempo SC as they pinned
their opponents in their own half.
Dempo SC doubled the account in the 61st minute through second half
substitute Jason Vaz, who replaced Beevan earlier. Jason was fed by
Jessel Carneiro in the box, and the striker showed his composure in
doubling the account.
GFA SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE
Candolim SC down Saligao United
An 80th minute strike from Mauger D’Souza helped Candolim SC record a
2-1 comeback win over Saligao Sporting in the GFA Second division League
match played at Poriat ground, on Thursday.
After a barren first half, Saligao United took the lead at the hour mark
through Ajay Diwadkar. However, Candolim SC came back strongly and
levelled terms in the 69th minute through Pundalik Naik before Mauger
netted the winner.
