Guardian Angel SC hold Churchill Brothers SC
Guardian Angel Sports Club twice came from behind to hold Churchill
Brothers SC in the Goa Professional League match played at Rosary
ground, Navelim, on Sunday.
Nickson Castanha scored a brace for Churchill Brothers while Alvito
Miranda and Nicholas Rodrigues were on target for Guardian Angel SC.
“Without any foreigners all the Goan players played well. We played as a
unit and almost sealed the win late in the game. But it’s alright. We
have lot of positives to take from this match,” said Guardian Angel SC
coach Riston Rodrigues.
The highlight of the day was two brilliant free-kicks from Nickson
Rodrigues, one each in the either half of the play. The former Dempo SC
full back’s strikes had no answer from the Guardian Angel keeper Ozen
Silva and also received accolades from the rival fans.
It was Nickson’s strike which gave Churchill Bros the lead in the 37th
minute but Guardian Angel equalised in the 45+1 minute through Alvito
Miranda, who tapped in Nicholas Rodrigues’ freekick.
With the scores level in the second half, Churchill Brothers came back
strongly and took the lead in the 53rd minute through Nickson, whose
scored yet again from a free-kick.
While up by a goal, Chuchill Brothers had a chance to inflate the tally
when the Red Machines were awarded a penalty but Uttam Rai shot wide
from the spot.
Guardian Angel finally levelled terms in the 65th minute when they were
awarded a penalty when the rival keeper brought down Sunny in the box.
Nicholas Rodrigues stepped over and made it all square to steal a point
from the red machines.
GFA U-14 LEAGUE
Raia FC hold Salcete FC, Churchill Bros, Ave Maria score fluent wins
Raia FC and Salcete FC played out a 1-1 draw in the Goa Football
Association U-14 League match played at Artificial Turf ground, on
Sunday.
Both teams enjoying a great campaign in the U-14 League so far started
the match on equal footings. After almost a barren half an hour,
Salcete FC finally broke the deadlock in the first half added time
through Omkar Gaonkar. But Raia FC were strong side and a fight was
expected. After much probing they finally managed to draw level in the
47th minute through Deep Paswan, who yet again found the mark for his
club and came with a vital goal to give his side important point.
In another match played at Cavelossim ground, Ave Maria Athletic and
Welfare Club thrashed Young Strikers Benaulim 5-1.
Ave Maria began the onslaught in the fifth minute through Vishal Das and
doubled the account in the 16th minute through Vijay S. Up by two goals,
there was no stopping as Ave Maria soon scored their third in the 22nd
minute through Austin D’Silva. Enosh Goes managed to pull a goal back in
the 26 minute for Young Strikers.
The winners led 3-1 at the break.
Crossing over, Cybern Fernandes and Mohammed Aman netted a goal each to
take the final score tally to 5-1.
Meanwhile Churchill Brothers SC scored a goal in the either half to
register a 2-0 win over SCC Loutolim.
Shayne Alfonos and Ramnath Parab were the goal scorers for the Red
Machines.

GFA THIRD DIVISION LEAGUE
Ronit hit four past Rosarian
Ronit Sports Club came from behind to thump Rosarian XI in the Goa
Football Association Third Division League match played at Taleigao
ground, on Sunday.
All five goals were scored in the second session of the play. Mayur
Khandeparkar gave Rosarian the lead in the 48th minute but Ronit SC,who
were brilliant in the first half didn't give up after conceding the goal
and continued to pressurise and finally levelled terms through Manoj
Narvekar in the 57th minute.
With scores level and match being played end to end, Rocky Fernandes
came with two goals in the span of three minutes to dent Rosarian hopes.
Yogesh Marshelkar hit the final nail in the coffin in the 81st minute to
take the score line to 4-1 in favour of Ronit SC.
