jc's comment 1: I am 'delighted' that those among us who are educated - believe that there is something called "politician credibility". 2: I do understand that there is "honour" among thieves. 3: Despite the fact that Manohar Parrikar had come to power through a series of calculated mini-coups, I had personally felt at the time that he was perhaps a different individual. In effect, he was the Hero of Goan politics, many of us were looking for. It appears that (at least) my 'faith' in Mr Parrikar was unfounded. here are some excerpts available in the public domain (author Sandesh Prabhudesai in "Panjim") [A] http://www.rediff.com/news/2000/oct/21goa3.htm The process of DESTABILSING the 11-month-old coalition government led by Francisco Sardinha in Goa took off, with Opposition leader Ravi Naik splitting from the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, a partner in the ruling coalition. [B] http://www.rediff.com/news/2000/oct/21goa4.htm Except for Babu Azgaonkar, who has defected for the first time, ALL the other new entrants to the BJP are HABITUAL DEFECTORS, including former Union minister Ramakant Khalap, who has defected twice since last year. 4: There were many incidents which occurred during that BJP reign in Goa. They sparked concern that the ghost of Salazar had returned. Some examples which I can remember off-hand include the harassments of Dr. Francisco Colaco and Mr. Floriano Lobo (the latter alleged that he was being 'watched' a la the PIDE). Then came the drama with the manhandling of Mr. Neri and the "forgery" case involving the later absconding 'Speaker'.(Whatever happened to that case?). Bosco is quite right to point out the Tonca and Fontainhas incidents. What happened to those vandals? Why did my Hero turn into a Nero and do Absolutely Zero! 5: Now let's examine Mr. Parrikar's two (contested) and apparently conflicting comments [A] Panjim MLA Manohar Parrikar has extended full support to the Panjim police and the Congress-led government to nab the culprits involved in the stoning of the Panjim police station. Parrikar said whatever the reason nobody is above the law. "I am with the Panjim police...You cannot hold the city to ransom." [H] [B] Manohar Parrikar yesterday demanded a thorough judicial inquiry into Tuesday night's attack on the Panjim police station and the ill-treatment meted out to the duly elected people's representative - babush Monserrate - as also damage caused to his property at Taleigao. [GT] I fully support both of the statements of Mr. Parrikar. He is absolutely correct in both statements. i.e. NObody is above the law (not even Babush Monserrate) and NO authority(i.e. the Police) can legitimately ill-treat anybody and damage property belonging to another(not even Babush Monserrate) I do not know what is wrong with what Mr. Parrikar said. Anybody who disagrees - please advise. 6: The Goa IGP Brar needs to consult a lawyer before he claims that the Goa Police did NOT commit assault on Mr. Babush Monserrate's underage son. sincerely jc
