That is his right. However, I stand by my stated position that IF Priolkar has written about the Inquisition in isolation, he could be no historian - never mind who acclaims him as one. I first read his book in 1976. It had a significant impact on me. Then, having traveled much, having noticed how the desis of the Caribbean treat the people they call "hanuman" and worse, and having had access to the various bookstores and libraries in this part of the world, I formed an opinion that Priolkar was more like the many "alleged" / "agenda based' "historian 'pundits' who opine as Fixed News Righties or the Marxist Lefties. I use this space and opportunity to come back to the topic of Catholic priests who delve into the political environment. This is what I will say to them: Sure, you can tell me about the abuses and harassment Catholics face especially in the NE of India, but tell me: What have you written, to whom have you complained and/or what have you done wrt the Child Abuse scandal that rocked the Church? Until you do that ....and are able to examine ALL the facts that surround events, I have no reason to believe that you are anything more than mere zealot propagandists. The same applies to those who will copy and paste (without analysis) articles from the Pioneer or from some other mouth piece of a political party. Nothing exists in an isolation, and this world is not a vacuum. Between the Christian thumpers, the Hindutva sanghis and the extremist Mullahs and Rabiis - we will likely have a Holy tamasha in this world ....while millions are trying to earn a living, and women are trying to avoid rape ....(that is ...until there is a drought and they have to dance naked in the fields till the rains arrive). Good job guys! Now, IF anybody has books, essays written by Priolkar that provides a circumspect analysis of the times (please see my previous post infra), please let me know. Unless of course, the belief is that Priolar was a "Inquisition" super-specialist. BTW: the Digmabaras having been noted: 1: Why (on balance to the naked women drought dance) do we not have the Men dancing naked in times of floods ....till the floods subside? (Alfredchacha'a answer noted in advance) (:-) 2: Why does it always have to be Women who have to dance naked or 'lower their pallu', be slaves of the victorious armies or jump into the funeral pyre of their dead husbands? ALL this in reference to India and its pre1947 precursor. 3: Is this disparity between males and females the reason why female foeticide and female infanticide are so prevalent in India? 4: A question which a Prakash-admirer ducked: If a pregnant woman's pregnancy is endangering her life, would you let her die or afford her a termination of pregnancy? And ....If a woman has an ectopic pregnancy, would you terminate it ...or not? No..No...homeopathic vokods do not CURE ectopic pregnancies! Perhaps, a nuevo Priolkar or Prakash or their respective admirers will advise us. Conclusion: Let's take it easy and be reasonable, There are many facets to every case. Only the frothing Lefties and Righties see it as being "cut and dry". jc === In response to this from me: One such person - is Priolkar. It matters little where he was based or what his zealous affiliation may have been. What matters are the following (IF we are to regard him as a historian i.e. one who is interested in History ....not selective interpretation of selective History) a: Were the Inquisitors the only criminals in ' the india ' of the time? b: Did 'we' also send hundreds of thousands of innocent people to a premature and fiery end? c: Were 'we' a peaceful people? d: etc etc I personally would have appreciated Priolkar as a historian IF he had done a comparative analysis of what he knew or ought to have known as an unbiased historian. The fact that he did not do so ....clearly leads me to believe that Priolkar was a zealot propagandist in the garb of a historian. There are tons of them around. === 2009/7/26 Santosh Helekar <chimbel...@yahoo.com> I think this is an unfair attack on the Goan historian Priolkar. His book received favorable reviews by his historian peers when it was first published. They especially pointed out the fact that his analysis was dispassionate, objective and restrained.
