You're probably correct, as usual, but I'm finding it hard to imagine
what input would cause the service to detect an attempt "to modify the
g:id of an existing item".  If an item is sent with a g:id attribute
which matches one already at the site, then that item is preplaced,
no?  And if the item is sent with a new/unique g:id attribute it is
inserted.  What am I missing?
