 For what it's worth, I don't yet know.

 Since our [https://informatics.kumc.edu/work/blog/2012/03/heron-el-dorado-
 release March 2012 release], HERON gets hospital billing info via UHC. I
 don't know whether UHC distinguishes admit from discharge diagnoses; if
 so, HERON doesn't yet notice. HERON is sensitive to primary y/n; as long
 as UHC diagnoses are generally discharge diagnoses, I can report that as
 primary discharge diagnosis. I'm not sure what to do otherwise.

 But the KU hospital has switched to Epic for billing ("charge capture" is
 the term I hear), and it's on our todo list to add Epic billing diagnosis
 data to HERON.
