Thinking on the Jpeg a little more - I think the 'empty' might get a
bit hard to read if many wires cross. Perhaps empty Items, Lists and
Trees could be drawn with a subtle orange-grey when empty (replace the
green with orange). This would combine their 'type' display with their
'use' status.
