To play a little devil's advocate:

If a tree is flattened, would that wire represent a list (double line)
or a single path (single line)?

Would the wire types be "smart"?  For instance if there is a tree wire
connecting to a component and the component input has the flatten
toggle checked would the wire connection switch to [answer to above
question]?

Will there not always be some combination of list data and tree data
coming out of every component?
