Ouch, too bad to hear about growlmail, particularly since Mail.app has such a difficult time notifying users that they have new mail - besides remembering to glance at the dock to make sure, that is.
Growlmail was the only way to get new mail notifications if you wanted to use Mail.app. Maybe Apple will actually fix Mail.app so it finally dings again, or at least maybe for 50% of the time - still won't be as effective as Growlmail though. After six years though, I don't find that likely.
