It's possible to use gettext() for the parsed status messages albeit you can only translate expected messages. We could tag those Gtk-Gnutella sends itself with N_() and then use gettext() on the receiver's side. In theory, you could simply take the 3-digit response code (e.g., 404) and map this to a prepared message completely ignoring the textual status message. However, this will only work for messages like "404 Not Found" but not so well for "400 Whatever". Sometimes, this message gives more detail about the actual problem or situation that cannot be expressed by a mere numerical code. In any case, this is mostly meant for tracing events and debugging problems. In other software, such messages are completely hidden which is certainly appropriate for certain software but wouldn't be fond of doing this in Gtk-Gnutella too much. -- Christian
