I had to use materials I could find on the spur of the moment on a Sunday
afternoon. So I went to the nearest Pep Boys (auto parts store) & puchased
the following:
2 - auto air intake flexible tubing (silver, about 2" in diameter,
located near the air filters)
        1 - 12" x 20" sheet of gasket paper
1 - automotive crankcase filter (appropriately sized for the
crankcase hose)

The flex tubing works great. There's probably a better material for the
heat/moisture barrier, but the gasket paper seems to be working. I worry
that the crankcase filter may allow oil to come out on the engine crankcase.

The sound is AWESOME!!! It's worth the trouble & expense just for the sound
sensation. I haven't been able to ride enough to tell whether performance
is affected.

I had another idea I'll throw out. What about putting the K&N's inside the
standard air box? They look like they'ld fit height-wise. You'ld have to
cut the rubber tubing down coming up from the throttle bodies & re-inforce
them from the inside with a piece of metal tubing, but it would sure solve
the heat/moisture problem. You could leave the thermistor & the crankcase
breather hose as is. Would it work?

In the mean time I like the shield idea, as a
matter of fact 6 moths ago I tried to put something together to protect the
filters from moisture and hot air, congrads for doing it. Please send me a
picture so as I can study your solution. What type material did you use for
the
air intakes?
