Yes, my girlfriend used a pen on her XT model, and hit the reset button for about 5 seconds and the male voice worked after that. I tested a stylus on my standard model, and it did work. I have one of those thin point ones. I don't know if the thick point would fit in there or not.

Still, it was a bit traumatic for her because she lost speech altogether before hitting the reset button. It was partly my fault I suppose because I suggested that if hitting the 5 key for a few seconds didn't switch to the male voice, then why not try going to the voice menu and see if we couldn't get the male voice that way. Well, when she tried to switch to the male voice in the voice menu, the unit went silent and would not talk at all. That was a scary experience for someone who is easily intimidated by computer stuff. Luckily, it only took a few seconds on the reset button to fix the problem.

My standard model has worked flawlessly so far and I am really liking this little thing a lot. I know I'm gonna like it even more when my BARD application is approved.

Denise had to use something like a pin, or safety pin. The stylus didn't work. My wife is unsure if she even felt a give or not. In the end it rebooted itself but it was kind of a surpise.
Activating that button may just be a matter of practice.

HI folks. I tried taking out the battery several times and it did not
work. I found a styless and put it in the pinhole but when I put
pressure on it there was no give like there was no button to depress.
DO you have any other tips? Thanks. Would reinstaling the 1.1 beta or
roling back to the previous version help?
