A year seems like a long time to implement many new features that users have suggested, but to be fair, part of that year was taken up with squashing all of the bugs that were in version 1.0 of the firmware. Let's hope that now HIMS is hitting its stride bringing us all of the things we have asked for. Perhaps the best thing that could happen is that once APH gets its delivery of the Book Port Plus in August, sales will be brisk, and competition will heat up. I wonder how quickly APH will get that wireless Internet access going with the Book Port Plus! There are definitely advantages to writing your own firmware. We bought our Booksense from GW Micro after all, and there must be some financial and contractual relationship between the two companies. Also, even though the feature request may only be entered into the database once, it can't hurt for multiple people to make the same request or to ask for an update to where a request is. This will help GW Micro and HIMS to prioritize these requests. Just like any other product, if GW Micro and HIMS realize they may be losing sales because a request isn't being acted on or a feature doesn't exist then they'll have to decide whether it's worth their interest to implement such a feature or not, i.e. is the cost of implementing the feature justified by the increase in sales and revenue that may result. HIMS and GW Micro probably won't commit to a schedule on when a particular feature will be delivered though, and just because we don't hear anything doesn't mean it isn't being considered or worked on. We've also asked for a better search method using the keyboard for text entry, an adjustment to the recording levels that would prevent distortion when using the internal microphone and correction of the pronunciation errors in the Neospeech text-to-speech engine. Unfortunately, GW Micro is not the company that writes the firmware for the BookSense; they can only pass our suggestions along to HIMS, the manufacturer. Since we never hear anything directly from HIMS, we don't know if they will ever implement these and other suggestions we make for improvement of the BookSense. We also don't know if it does any good to continue to voice the same complaints a year later, since Raul said that each bug report and suggestion was only entered into the database once. Is HIMS still aware that it is important to us to get these things done, and even more importantly, do they care? Also, it would be nice if we could get back some of the speaker volume we loast when going to 2.0 I had to buy a set of small Bluetoot speakers to use since the Bookscence voolume is not loud enough except for in bed at night., and no I don't have a hearing problem.
