This is some thing I have been saying for a long time. They need to have separate volume controls for the tts and the audio player. I have to turn up the volume to hear the player, but it raises the tts volume, too. When I'm using the external speaker, I set the volume to 21 and the audio player isn't loud enough. The tts is a little too loud.
