Don't forget my suggestion of supporting multiple alarms and user-supplied
alarm sounds.
Thanx.

Subject: [GW-Booksense] Summary Of Wish List Items as I remember Them

I'm sure that Raul and GW Micro staff have been pulling out items and
comments for future updates as we post them. Here is what I remember:

* The ability to set volume for the built-in synthetic speech and play back
content of audio files.

* The ability to enter a radio frequency directly using the keypad. (This
will require the current functions of keys 7, 8, 9, and 0 to be moved some
where else.)

* The ability to use the equalizer settings in all modes.

* The ability to switch between earphones and external speakers in all
modes. (This will reduce the requirement to connect and disconnect earphones
extending the life of the jack.)

* The ability to determine the level of the battery without having to power
the unit on. (I just added this one. May be a push and hold of the time
function key while the unit is powered off?)

* An audible warning one minute before the sleep timer shuts the unit down.

* DRM support. (This probably is a licensing issue, but if it happens, I
think the BookSense will be the first player to have this capability.)

* A better way to enter text to perform a text search. (I can see this
happening by using the keypad as if it were a cell phone keypad. Although a
six or eight Braille dot mode would be nice, personally the telephone keypad
would be a significant step forward.)

These are what I can remember. This would be a significant upgrade if all of
our recommendations are implemented. I have only been able to compare the
BookSense with two other digital players. The NLS player is not available
outside of the U. S.

One thing I've noticed is that the BookSense is more responsive than the
other two. And the only feature that is available on one of the others is
the capability of being able to produce DAISY audio recordings on the fly.
If I am being honest with myself, I see this as a questionable use of
programming real-estate. With what can be done with audio recordings and
DAISY recordings is not that much different in my opinion. Being able to
insert marks on the fly during an audio recording is more than enough. For
me the true strength of DAISY is the text component. For general use
everything that is possible with just DAISY audio can be more or less done
with the audio mode. Yes DAISY audio can be marked up to move by sentence,
paragraph, and page, however I don't come across very many DAISY audio only
books that are marked up this way.
