I don't know if it matters or not, Gail. Looks as if the common denominator here is the GW Micro-supplied Eloquence synth. Beta 2 just clean blew up on me a couple of minutes ago while I was speed reading through GW Info posts, forcing me to reboot the computer. This blow-up occurred at least twice that I can recall with the first beta, and twice with the second beta. No error events are generated, and WE's error reporting isn't catching the problem, whatever it is. It's frustrating.
I want to clarify that the operating system itself did not lock up, and the XP sounds I use as cues were all still working. I just lost speech. I was able to reboot the computer with the Windows key, U, R key sequence. I guess a good question for the GW Micro support staff would be, is it okay to reinstall the ETI Eloquence voices from the 6.1 cd and test the beta using those voices? Oh. One thing I did not think of trying when the blow-up occurred was switching to the gW Micro-supplied DECTalk synth to attempt a shut down and restart of Window-Eyes alone. Maybe I'll remember next time. The main problem is that WindowEyes 7 beta 2 using the new Eloquence with the Reed voice just stops talking. This has happened in two clear instances. Once when I was on a website with multiple pages and I was looking through long lists of music. To be specific, it happened on Easynews. The other instance was when I was copying music from a folder on my PC to a folder on a Dell PDA that has the Humanware Maestro-Trekker system. I've been able to do a lot more with beta 2 before these things occur than I could with beta 1 but they still happen. I'm using Windows XP with all the updates, but I've stayed with I.E. 6. Would it make a difference if I upgraded to I.E. 7? It seems people have reported problems with I.E. 7 too, so maybe it wouldn't matter.
