Okay, Jim. The Window-Eyes 7 beta 2 just went boom. I launched NVDA, which seemed
to have uncharacteristically limited functionality, and Alt-tabbed to the open message and pressed escape, which closed it. Then I Alt-tabbed to Outlook 2003 itself and pressed Alt-F4 and Outlook closed. Window-Eyes, however, did not come back talking. I tried to shut Window-Eyes off through task manager, but NVDA's limited functionality would not let me read the list items, so I tried to shut WE down by guess and by God, aiming for Wineyes.exe and Bdisplay.exe per Mike Lawler's instructions. Thinking I had accomplished the shut down, I pressed the WE startup hot key, Control-Alt-W, and was greeted with the XP exclamation ding and the message that Window-Eyes was already running. I pressed Enter on the default OK button and figured that was the end of that dialog. When I tried again to kill WE with task manager, I got caught in a loop of Window-Eyes is already running dialogs and End task dialogs. I tried to restart Windows, only to discover that the system was partially locked. After the one-finger euthanasia, I resurrected the machine and then launched Outlook and wrote this message to you. As I stated in a previous message, the blow-up occurred immediately after I pressed Enter to open a message. Whatever is going on seems to wait until I've opened a number of messages. Since I was able to close Outlook with Alt-F4, I presume Outlook was still responding. In my experience, an unresponsive program will not close with the Alt-F4 command and must be dealt with from within task manager. I could be wrong though. I forgot to mention that there are 512 mb of ram in this machine. I noticed that there are five scripts running. The only scripts in this beta are the ones that were already in the program. So window-eyes stops speaking nothing happens. I am sure if you started a screen reader like nvda closed outlook witch you will find is not responding that window-eyes speech will come back again. Could you test this and let us know if it works? So the bug is actually window-eyes does not read gpf errors as it should.
