There isn't a way to programatically control the selection in the
Windows add/remove so we couldn't do this. Also our script will work
as well as the standard Windows add/remove for items that are also in
the Windows add/remove list. Just FYI this was still difficult for
me to understand. If you had said
one run the standard Windows add/remove
2. Pop up the WE add/remove script
3. Choose an item in the list
4. Close the script returning you to the Windows add/remove
5. Is it possible for the Windows add/remove selection to be changed
at this point to equal what was selected in the WE add/remove list
while it was up.

Ok, let's try again.
When we are in the custom list box, it's possible to use quick keys
to jump to distant parts of the add-remove list.
When you exit the list box, you are not on the item you were looking
at but on the item you were on before entering the custom list box.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but to my simple mind, it would seem
an easier task to get the list view item via a simple incremental
count or some such, and maybe feed it to the script so that when you
exit the custom list box you could be left on the item you were
looking at when you left the list box.
So then you could exit and be where you needed to be, and then
perform a standard windows add/remove function and never mind if the
script couldn't find an executable to run to remove the item.
But the navigational issue would be covered.
is this possible without a major headache?

hey, it's cool, but thanks for explaining it to me.
Now would there be a way to allow it to stay on the item that's
selected and exit and use the normal add/remove, or is the way the
script fed the information not such that this could work?
It would be very handy if this could be done relatively easily.
Lord knows if you got a great big list of programs to arrow
through and you do a lot of testing and playing around with new
apps and such, could make life a bit easier 'grin'.

Chris, if you are getting errors in our scripts are you actually
sending them? This script was a proof of concept and it shows
everything in add/remove. Windows hides things in add/remove if
told to do so, but this script ignores that flag and shows
everything. That isn't a bug it's just how it shows things thus
some things won't necessarily remove with the script and again
that isn't an issue with the script. You'd see it with other
add/remove replacements as well. Try myuninst from
http://nirsoft.net which I generally use.

Pardon me, but I think people have a right to be
concerned is scripts don't work.
After all, that was the big push in the last development cycle,
scripting pushed most other concerns to the back burner.
So now if most of the company scripts are having problems, and
people are concerned, well, they paid good money to be.
Removeing the script will certianly fix the problem, but that's
like removing your eye if you get something in it 'grin'.
We're seeing a prime example of a little company who bit off
more than they could chew and didn't give them selves enough time to chew it.
I've more or less come to grips with we, using it for the things
it works well for.
Web surfing, as long as you don't mind loosing your place a lot,
but I'm used to we.
it's good for exploring stuff, and mousing around.
The scripts mostly work when they're not generating errors.
I don't feel warm and fuzzy unless I have 5 or 6 errors a day
but if the boys and girls are doing their job, this is helping them.
I take great delight in making smart-ass comments when I send in
bug reports.
But when we makes me mad, I have other alternatives.
Some folks here don't and I'd be mad too if my main means of
access wasn't doing what I needed.
So trying to keep a balance between productively trying to
squash bugs, and airing grievances, and being decent about it,
and giving the guys a chance, all in all, I gotta to say, when
someone's paid out good money, they expect results.
I don't think they know entirely what they're doing yet, because
scripting is so new for we, so we're having some growing pains.
But it is frustrating as hell when your trying to get work done.
God I do wish we didn't get rushed out the door so fast, you
know a lot of people are afraid to speak up, but I've gotten
some interesting private emails about this and that.
I get in trouble for running my mouth, but better to die on your
feet and live on your knees.
So I tell all my students, and fellow we users, call them up,
write them, let them know what you need and what ain't workin
that's the only way things will ever change.
If a blind man never stood up and fought for what they needed,
we'd still be out in the street selling pencils and begging for aums.
Some of us still aren't that much further along.
But as long as we are paying gwmicro salaries, we have a right
to ask, and to question, and yes, indeed to respectfully
complain when it is called for.
Thank you, and soap box session over.

The Add/Remove script was really just a proof of concept, so
there may be issues. All it does is read in the uninstall
keys in the registry, and then populates a list box with the
results. There are no uninstall checks or anything like that
to verify that an application can be uninstalled. It just
calls the string in the uninstall key to begin the
installation. As this is a GW Micro script, it is free to
modify and re-distribute, so if someone wants to beef it up,
they're welcome to it.

Hello to the list,
I have the add remove script installed and when I activate
the script with alt control a the list box comes up
fine. The problem comes in when I try to remove a
program. I get error messages that the program cannot be
removed or that windows can't find the file. Is this
supposed to work when you use this script? When I go to
add remove programs in control panel it works just
fine. If this is an issue with the script I hope it can be
resolved as it is an easy way to remove programs.
