As wonderful as scripts are, and especially the Winamp script, I sure wish the damn thing wouldn't run almost every time I open Eudora, and then abort. Well, I guess I'm glad it aborts, considering that there is nothing for it to do within Eudora, but it really gets to be a pain in the arse every now and then.

Scripts are so small. They use up hardly any system resources whatsoever.
They require very little from your CPU. I have over 60 global scripts that
load when window-eyes starts, and I see absolutely no performance
degradation. So feel free to install and use global scripts. I think you
will find that there is no need for concern.
I hope this information helps.

Hi,

Oh I'm sure they are, but the more you ask a programme to do externally,
in the form of scripts, the more it will go wrong. There's only so many
scripts you can have before you start hitting problems. That also very
much depends on the type of spec machine you have as well. Remember for
every thing you have running, including scripts, that takes up
additional resources.

This may be right at times, but take the winamp scripts, these scripts
are an amazing addition to those of us that use winamp. Yes you will
find bugs, but I have never found them to make the application unstable.
And the winamp author strives to keep up with problems, and he does a
great job of it.

That's just my opinion.

Have a great day.

Hi,

Oh I just turn the scripts off, since I moved over from jaws to wineyes,
I found that I just didn't need them. Also I think that overall to many
scripts make what ever programme that you're using unstable in the long
run.

Subject: Observations about the Concept of the Script

Back when JAWS had scripts and Window-Eyes did not, one of the arguments
posed against scripting, and an argument that was used loudly and often,
was that scripts would be used to add functionality that was never
intended for a screen reader. I find it interesting, therefore, that now
that Window-Eyes has implemented scripting, one of the most talked-about
scripts is one which goes to a site on the Internet and returns weather
forecasts and conditions. Many of the same people who use this script
regularly and rave about it are the same people who accused JAWS users
of wanting non-screen-reader-related functionality. To me, this all
seems very ironic. Thank you.--D.K.
