Hello all, I have one of these FTDI converter cables attached to a USB slot and the PC with the other end connected to a DECTalk Express serial. The PC is running Windows 7.
I needed to get a driver for it from ftdi.com for it to work. Now all is well. Regards, John. Find a converter with the FTDI chip set. I've been using one of these for a long time and it works extremely well with my Doubletalk LT which is my synth of choice. Converters with the Prolific chip set don't seem to work very well. I had one of these that I gave away because it wouldn't work at all on a fast computer. Port settings didn't help. The FTDI converter works very well especially after I disabled the modem controls in the port settings in device manager. This machine is XP Pro so I haven't tested with Vista or 7 yet. You can go to (www.usbgear.com) to find FTDI chip set serial converters. Their web site has a download secsion which has 32 and 64 bit drivers for XP and Vista. They don't mention 7 yet but it may be possible for the Vista driver to work. They still have the converters starting at $19.95. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Edick" <[email protected]> To: "'wayne'" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 4:51 AM Subject: RE: The DecTalk USB >I have tried a number of USB to serial adapters that do not work with the > lt, and other hardware synths and displays that use serial ports. is it > possible to know what people use? > > > /David > > I tried to follow myself on twitter and got lost! > -----Original Message----- > From: wayne [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Thursday, November 19, 2009 11:49 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: The DecTalk USB > > Yes I'm using it on vista 64 > It will work with a usb to serail adapter. > You can get the adapter for 20 dollars. > > wayne, > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "David Edick" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Cc: "'Keith Bucher'" <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, November 19, 2009 23:52 > Subject: RE: The DecTalk USB > > >> Hey all, >> >> this is good. however,: >> *can you use it on a 64bit system? >> *can you use it on a system without serial ports? >> *how much is the USB to serial adapter? >> *is there a size difference? >> >> >> there were many reasons that the triple talk was invented. if the double >> talk is still usable, that is great, for now. however the question needs >> to >> be asked, how long will it be usable? >> >> /David >> >> I tried to follow myself on twitter and got lost! >> -----Original Message----- >> From: Keith Bucher [mailto:[email protected]] >> Sent: Thursday, November 19, 2009 12:24 PM >> To: [email protected] >> Subject: The DecTalk USB >> >> Hello, >> >> Shortly after it came on the market, I purchased a DecTalk USB.
