Or, if one takes the time to read between the lines of all of the
statements from GW Micro, the path to 8 was a much larger load of
work than anticipated and they went with 7.5 because they decided it
was a good halfway point between where we are and where we are going
to be with 8. Also, perhaps, just perhaps, the solution to the browse
mode problems, something that I too experience and find frustrating,
is something that requires some of the other changes? I wonder how
well the solution to the problem would work if done with an
MSAA framework when MSAA goes away? Just a thought.
I was frustrated to hear about 7.5 and what it wouldn't have since
browse mode issues are a big deal to me and especially since I am on
my last SMA, but them's the breaks. I would personally rather have a
solution that will work for the long term with the current situation
and with an eye to the future. GW now has direct contact with
Microsoft and has an idea of where things are going with Windows and
whether or not they are having to catch up on any particular area or
not, I think it is wiser to do things right rather than do them
quickly, something that is hard to do in the world of software and
that often doesn't leave happy consumers.
Also, on the annual fee versus SMA thing, bad idea. Perhaps as an
option for some would be fine, but if one is going through tight
times, one then has to come up with the fee to keep up one's software
or face falling behind and having to pay whatever catch up fees might
be required to buy back in. I doubt it would be feasible to say that
someone who has stopped paying for a long period can just start up at
the same rate again any more than one can expect to pay the same for
jumping from WE 3 to 7.5 that one would pay to jump from 7.2 to 7.5.
One faces something similar with SMA, but I just don't care to have
yet another annual expense added to what I already have, particularly
since there is no way to guarantee that I will get something worth
the fee each and every year.

Chris

and perhaps one of the reasons they are labeling it 7.5 rather than 8.0 is
that they don't have a ready fix.
Still, while Robert is technically correct, it hardly is much consolation
to the customer struggling with those issues.
