Veronica,

If you redefine a hotkey, such as Insert-Q, to something else and set its scope to your active program, then the change will only apply to the program. As soon as you switch away to another application, the global definitions take over again, and therefore Inset-Q will resume its normal function without you having to do anything else.

We can certainly understand the frustration with having to learn a new way of doing things, but keep in mind that the complicated means of adjusting global or program-specific settings has been the number one concern of new Window-Eyes customers. Essentially, when you have advanced options enabled from under the Help menu, nearly every Window-Eyes setting can be configured to apply globally (which is the default) or for a certain program. You will see a toggle scope button next to each setting; press the spacebar to toggle the scope of the setting between global and program. Once you are satisfied, change the setting itself. Keep doing this as you prefer until you have everything set the way you prefer.

Our Set files are now in a standard XML file format, so you can quite easily duplicate preferences across multiple files if you choose to do so. If you have more specific questions, you may also call us when we open again tomorrow.

Regards,
Steve

Hi everyone!
I think I understand most of the responses I've gotten. I assume that once I have it sorted out on one computer, I can just copy and paste the files in the default directory on the new one. That would be great in one situation. That would assume that I had the same programs running on all my computers. I don't. So merely copying set files to another computer wouldn't apply my desired changes to set files that only exist on the second computer. Text to set would have done this. Feels like we're not there yet. Am I missing something? Still can't figure out how to really explore a set file. And I assume that if I want changes to a specific program, hmmm, still confused here. Let's say that in this one program I want to redefine read mouse line to Insert-Q. Originally, globally, this hot key gives battery status. I hunt around the tree view, find hot keys, then redefine the key, telling WE that I want it program specific to say, Sonar. Now, what happens in all the other applications. Do I have to go in and redefine this hot key for battery status in every other application individually because it's listed as a program specific hot key or will all the other programs still use this hot key to give battery status? As to general comments, if GW really had to make a major change like this, can someone tell me where this was explained in any detail? Instead of doing this, now you do that kind of detail. I don't like the amount of time I've used up trying to discover what I can no longer do and how to do it now.
Thanks.

Veronica
