I have WE8.0 installed from CD. I was just trying to do the
downloaded update to WE8.2.

you didn't say it was the w e setup. grin.
all you get is the setup instructions from a mp3 file. unless you
already have a screen reader like narrator, nvda or jaws running
there would not be any speech because win eyes is not installed yet
so it can not talk.

You would think the WE8.2 Update setup program would speak
properly. We is working, but just not reading the setup screen. I'm
sure it is just asking if I want to proceed with setup, but Y, Alt-Y,
and Enter have no effect. Tabbing away and back has no effect on
readability. I'll give Narrater a try.

it depends on the setup program.
like with hp software. most of the time it is not accessible.
try useing a speak window , control 0 through 9.
or alt tabing away and back to the dialog. sometimes it will at
least speak the dialog window.
sometimes narrator or nvda screen reader will speak where w e will not.
if you are logged on as a standard user and install software w e
will not speak unless you unload it and run it as administrator.
then it will work because the program is running as administrator.

Subject: Windows 8 and Program Installation Screen
I have a new Toshiba notebook with Windows 8. I have installed the
"Start Is Back" app that gives the start menu back again. When I try
to install a new program, the setup screen does not talk with
WE8. The mouse is also silent. I can't seem to get beyond that
setup screen. This was even true when I tried to do the WE8.2
update. Is there any kind of work around for this? I'm on the verge
of installing Windows 7 over the top of Windows 8 or, if that doesn't
work, returning the notebook to the place of purchase.
