You run Microsoft Essentials, they even support the XP version for still another year or so. Microsoft likes to make everyone think XP is out, and eventually it will be, but there is million of users out there still. And in many countries it is simply not an alternative to update the computer pack. Hence, if the staff at GW wants to keep their customers running, they may want to pay attention to that fact. The ecconomic situation round the globe, does make it little likely that every XP user - blind or not - will have the finances to upgrade. And for many users, they are relying on financial support from the authorities. GW may well enough tell they don't support XP, but their screen reader should still be able to be run under that OS, in one way or another. At least, if they still want the market. No, I am no longer on XP myself, but I know that there is enough users who are, and for many a reason cannot, will not or are not allowed upgrading. If, for instance, you have a computer provided to you through an organization or some authorities, you may not even be allowed to upgrade the OS - no matter your financial situation. Do you think that is not the case? That absolutely all such organiztions and authorities have made the plunge into Win7 or even Win8. Well, then let me welcome you all to the real world. Should now the next version of the screen reader leave the XP users behind the wagon, well then a load of users may actually have to drop their hope for a further functionality on their part. What if you are blind, and work for a company that for some reason or the other, does not have intentions of upgrading? And, to tell people that they are not administering their money well enough, just because they do not prioritize a new computer, seems a bit out of scope. I know people who have to make a daily living in the North-Americas for little more than a thousand dollars a month. Now, try to see how well you can administer that into a new computer, please. Besides, if all the user is doing is some some offline activity in general, with only a few net connections once or twice a month, then XP may be safe enough for a long time.

True, if you can make it, and you do not have particular reason for holding on to XP due to technical reasons - I could agree that you will do better in upgrading. Always better to play safe. Yet, Win7 and Win8, are not all that much more safe. If so, then why do they have to kick out updates every week? And Win7 has some backdoors open by default, forced by certain decisions. Now, all of this said, the initial question was as simple as if the screen reader would continue to support XP. I am not sure why we turn such a simple question into a matter of people's capability of administering their finances or not. I really see that as non-appropriate. Whatever reason you or anyone else have for the choice of not upgrading to XP, I rest assured that you are the best one to decide for yourself; but never for anyone else. Should you bbe among the XP users, you are in your right to ask if you can count on further support and functionality of the screen reader.

That whole thing about XP being more vulnerable isn't necessarily true either. Don't go to strange sites, keep in mind vigilant internet surfing practices and you won't catch anything. I have never caught a computer virus in my life and I still run XP on several systems. Of course, I bet I have now just jinxed it. Thanks for telling me what I should be doing with the little money I have.
Let's see, should I pay my rent and buy food or spend the money on a new
computer? Don't be so arrogant as to tell me what I should do with MY money just because you are in a position apparently to spend your money much more easily on the latest technology and don't have to worry about basic needs. This is the most obnoxious email I have received on this list and I could
not help but reply.
"people should know their finances and plan accordingly" - PLEASE - you
should be a financial planner!

Well people knew that support was going to end for XP and they should have been making plans to upgrade especially if it is a personal situation. I
realize, having been there, that work is a different situation.

People do need to start thinking about upgrading from VISTA as I have it on very good authority that this one will no longer be supported as of October
of this year.

People know their finances and should plan accordingly with the information
at their disposal.

Thanks.
