Some of us were angered not so much by the position taken by Ai
Squared over the matter, rather Mr Smith style of delivery which he
attributed to his sense of humour. I may be in a small minority,
believing that the subject doesn't naturally inspire humour, hence,
my finding his original post a tad flippant, if not unprofessional.
No reasonable person would disagree with GW's position in this
instance, and for us on this side of the divide that's all we wanted
from the company, a yes or no answer, whether or not XP would be
supported in version 9.
The problem, as I see it, is that some individuals here fail to
appreciate the difficulty a significant number of Window-Eyes users
find themselves in. The problem is further exacerbated by said
individuals who seemed determined to blame the latter for their own
misfortune, for example, by suggesting that their financial
difficulties are caused by their own lack of sound financial management.
I have been very clear on both points on this thread and other
similar threads in the past. Yet, for reasons unknown to me some
fellow list members choose to launch into gratuitous attacks on
anyone who dares even raise the subject. I have been receiving
abusive messages from these individuals, some of the comments would
be even too much for GW Info.
Sincerely, Matthew

If you guys want newer computers, i have 2 suggestions for you.
1. Save up some cash if possible, and buy a newer one. it might not
be the top of the line model but you can get a pretty decent laptop
for around $300, possibly less if you do a bit of shopping. Amazon
is a good place to look. Refurbished laptops might be something to
look at as well.
2. This is less likely, but sometimes, websites like
http://www.blindbargains.com runs personal adds for people who are
selling laptops and regular pc's too. If you look around you might
find yourself a good deal and it'll be at a price you can afford.
There really are alternatives....I fully understand the position
some of you are in, i'm on a fixed income myself.
I know some of you were angered by Aaron's response, but he is 100
percent correct. GW Micro can't possibly support an operating
system that Microsoft isn't even supporting anymore. Remember,
these guys are in this as a business...they gotta keep the lights on somehow.
I know some of you won't like my response but it's true.

Ms Campbell,
As one of the more enthusiastic advocates of dropping XP in favour of a more
up-to-date operating system, would you be prepared to personally sponsour a
list member unable to afford the cost of necessary hardware and software
upgrades in order that they put your suggestions into practice? As you say,
running XP is fraught with risks from hackers and crackers. So, it would be
a very public-spirited gesture from you to enable at least one of us mere
mortals to make the move over to Windows Seven or later. I dare say GW Info
is richly endowed with self-styled internet security experts, software
analysts and engineers. I'm sure if they were to donate a dollar each time
they gave us the benefit of their insight into the subject, soon we would be
able to help a dozen or more ignorant bumkins who are unwittingly throwing
the future of GW, Ai Squared and the civilised world into question by using
out-of-date versions of Windows.
Sincerely, MJ Williams

While I am not a GW Micro/AI Squared Indiana staff member, I strongly
believe that XP will not be supported in the next release. As you
rightly point out, Microsoft is no longer supporting it which means you
don't get security updates thus making your system vulnerable to viruses
and hacking.
Anyone, in my opinion, who is running XP should upgrade at their first
opportunity for the reason I specified above. Keep in mind that VISTA
will be in the same position come October and I have that on very good
authority.
Thankfully I don't have to worry about this issue any longer as my work
machine was upgraded this past July. I love not having to deal with
the XP issues any longer; and this also means not having to worry about
needing to run an older version of WE because the next version very
likely won't work under XP.
Happy upgrading.
