Go to the Masquerades--they are staged costume contests with skits.

Attend as many workshops & panels as you can--in or out of your current 
interests.

Schmooze & get to know costumers. 
They may be going into raptures over seeing one another--that's because we're 
from Boston, Atlanta, Nebraska, California & have not seen each other since the 
last CC we both could make; a year at the least.
Also, we're costume geeks. ;) 
Some are great at socializing, but not all by any means.
