I agree with Colin: We should make newcomers feel welcome to this hobby, young or old or in-between, and we should encourage their observations and thoughts. That’s how we all learned. To me, the trick is how to take advantage of a teachable moment without it feeling like a put-down. I don’t claim any great insights on that subject, but I do think about it when I respond to a post, even if I don’t always get it right.
