This thread seems to have gained attention. As someone who has flirted with
MUMPS since 1975 and actively tested it since 1985, I don't get a sense of
what I would call animosity. Nor do I get much of a warm fuzzy feeling. This
just seems a fact, as the most active participants are working with
Linux/GTM. Not that I can blame them. It should be a free list of those
interested in VistA on any OS.

Cache has been nice to me, in that I can run several testing/training
platforms and older versions of my productions along side each other, with,
seemingly, no performance hit. Training is especially nice, in that I can
move a Cache.Dat file to another folder and allow learners to practice on
"real but out of use" data with no fear of data damage. Perhaps the same
options are available with other systems. I just haven't had a chance to
test the concept.

I would like to put more time in the GTM Linux, platform, however, I am
frantically working to get a production/conversion turned around by the turn
of the year and don't have the luxury of learning a new OS, new M dialect,
and a new look and feel.

So I will take what I find here, pitch in when I feel moved to do so, and
watch the world slide by. Not so bad if one isn't deeply invested in whom
does what.

Most of all, I am grateful to the founders and maintainers of HardHats and
shall remain eternally indebted.

Thanks,

thurman
