Now this is the stuff that I do know... :)

Sentillion will give you a license for software integration and
development against any of their CCOW installations. The VA has a
license for Sentillion CCOW on the enterprise, so I (the vendor) don't
have to pay to use CCOW (outside a nominal one-time fee).

But as a hospital, you'd have to license CCOW for your site which
consists of not only client-side software but hardware running the "CCOW
Vaults". These Vaults maintain CCOW Connection information and state
across all your clients (and that's where your client-side software
connects to).

Now I don't know the costs for a hospital, but for someone integrating
with an existing Sentillion site - it's not too bad at all.

Now CCOW is not required for CPRS and VistA Imaging (yet). If you don't
have the CCOW components installed, the software will bypass the CCOW
check and continue working in "legacy". If a system (such as
HealtheVet) requires CCOW access, we could work three solutions.

1) Remove CCOW and use another means of transferring the patient link.
2) Implement a different CCOW product (that's made from scratch or Open
Source).
3) Talk to Sentillion.

Thoughts?

/David.

In the past, Sentillion would send you a developers trial copy of the
software. You have to fill out a form as I recall, then I think they
call
you and mail it to you if you pass muster. I got a copy once to use
with
VistAImaging, and then never got the Accusoft software so I haven't used
it
(yet?). It took quite a while to get it as I recall - I think something
like
4-6 weeks, but I could be wrong about the that.
