I played WoW with a good friend of mine from the day it launched for
about a year. Then I went cold turkey, right about when people
started doing Molten Core. My buddy kept playing (mainly because his
wife was into the game whereas mine wasn't) but just quit himself a
couple months ago.

I have sworn off MMOs at least for the forseable future. One reason
is none of them have done it better than WoW. A second is the time
sink and with a wife who doesn't play games at all and a baby on the
way there just isn't time for me anymore. But I still have great
memories of my fave MMOs, like DAOC, PlanetSide and WoW.

I played some of the beta of Hellgate London - meh. Nothing really
special, just a MMO version of Diablo 2. While you can play for free
(as in $50 for the game but no monthly fee) most of the good content
you can only get by paying a monthly fee.

Tabula Rasa looked interesting but they have had a rough launch and
really once the coolness of the magic/technology mix wears off it
really is the same old thing.

I personally am saving up my long gaming nights for Spore when it
finally does ship. Supposedly it will have a MMO-sort of thing where
you can upload your creatures to the universe and see how they
interact and survive against other people's creatures. Should be
really cool.
