It has a default dpi of 800, which is fine so far. However, before
loading the software, I saw no way to control the acceleration of the
mouse cursor. I like to be able to go all the way across the screen
while moving my only a couple of inches. It seems that without the
software, one has to basically scroll the width of the screen. No way!
Of course, I didn't spend much the fighting it. I've got 16 GB of ram on
this box, so I don't mind too much installing the software.

Glad you're happy so far. I don't use any Logitech software and only
use the normal left/right middle scroll wheel buttons. I really like
mine, super high DPI is highly overrated and yes I counted 8 buttons.

Just got the Logitech MX518. Smooth. Feels good in my
hand...instantly salved the interference I was having with my new
4-bay usb3.0 ProBox. This thing was spewing RF all over the
place....as soon as I turned it on the old wireless would start
freezing. Gone is that now. Probably should load the drivers for
it, though. this is not a lazer mouse, but the stated resolution is
1800 dpi.
Now to figure out what all these buttons are for...box says 8
buttons...only see 6. Hmm...
