This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] I'm going to reply with my original thread, mostly an appeal and protest thread to Valve, probably a waste of time even posting here, but, i figure it's a tally for Valve if they do read from feedback from their server ops, you know, the people that keep valve products alive outside of their occasional developments.....
--------------- In reference to my reply to a thread on the hlds list about the idea of Valve positioning ads in CS 1.6-------------------- We have a similiar thread going within our community forums. Some are very mad, some ambivalent, and some ready to embrace the change. We are an older CS 1.6 community that manages to chug along year after year with dedicated players that love the game, and the sense of belonging to something they really enjoy. We have a dedicated admin staff that outnumbers many workplace supervisory teams. I pay the monthly bandwidth bills with my own cash and donations from the folks that love the game and keep it rolling. Our folks don't get paid, we spend our cash maintaining it. We don't depend on valve for much, VAC is 72% useless, updates to improve and fix gameplay have been nonexistent for 1.6 for years. The number of folks (friends, family, co-workers) that our community have turned on to buying valve products over the last 8 years has to number in the 100's if not 1000's of product's sold for Valve. That is Valve's revenue source, making games.. not promoting non-related products, IMO. Now valve will be making us server ops party to being purveyors for other people's products that we may or may not endorse, like, nor care about. We, the server ops, and communities that support the servers are Valve's endorsers, not Coca-Cola, not Intel, etc.... If the server model originated on Valve owned servers and Valve paid-for bandwidth, I could see the point. Oh well, as I tell our community, patience, roll with it and see what happens. I have to have faith and trust in Valve to make the right decisions here, that the program they will implement will not impact gameplay, will not affect gameplay, will not diminish gameplay. That's what we are here for, right, gameplay? That's the bottom line. Valve has something very special in their game model that's not common, folks that dedicate their own time and resources without (too) much complaint to make valve's products continue to be viable. Let's keep that harmony going.. please. ---daggy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > If it can not connect to the ad server, it automatically provides you with > the viewing pleasure of VALVe game ads. > ---- "Saint K." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> I'll give a cookie to the first one to write a tweak to block the ads. >> >> _______________________________________________ >> To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, >> please visit: >> http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds >> > > > _______________________________________________ > To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please > visit: > http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds > > -- _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
