Sorry to plug on a subject ;) but I wold like to respond to this (veiled
insult...) with some credentials.

I work for an IT security firm - we deploy large networks to companies
globally. We also work with ISP's on various tasks. I am a qualified
Electronics Engineer (and probably know about network protocols and the IPV6
stack than you imagine) and experienced (ish) programmer.

I admit that my knowledge of the higher level of networking (like actually
building one) is a little lapse (improving) but my technical knowledge is
very good :)

The WP article has barely any information on it (and certainly no links to
decent critiques of IPV6). Wikipedia is fair useless for networking stuff :(

We work with companies on network projects in the $millions scale. They will
tell you IPV6 is too costly (especially in the current climate) and not fit
for purpose. They are alreayd pushing for IPV8 (and we have been informed by
one multinational they will not even consider "upgrading" to a new tech
until both IPV8 fixes IPV6 AND it all becomes backward compatible).

That last point is crucial. It is why IPV6 will only ever be deployed in
brand spanking new networks.... (read: very few :)).
