So, it looks like you all are using Windows w/ Hobo.
If all of Hobo components along with some popular gems such as

better stick to Win development platform.
What do you think?
You'll get my Macbook when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands. :)
But seriously, it's very dependent on what you're most comfortable
with as a developer. I prefer OS X, as Rails work on Windows has
historically been prone to occasional headaches. By far my favorite
was the mess (discussed on rails-talk) where having an antivirus
program installed could cause a race condition when freezing Rails to
vendor/rails. The result was that "gem unpack activerecord" would
scream and die when run programmatically, but succeed without issue
when run manually - something to do with the scanner fiddling
directory permissions for the first few milliseconds after creation.
Finally solved that by adding a 'sleep(10)' statement in the Rake
task...
I'm also partial to not having to think about which set of commands,
etc to use at the command line; "ruby script/server" or "script/server"?
I can't comment on the Ubuntu GUI parts; I do all my Ubuntu work
through SSH to production servers.
