My daughter has a five valve single Bb Hoyer; when I play it I find I have to use much less hand in the bell; I suppose that the main reason is because the horn's throat is smaller than then the throat of my regular double. It's certainly possible to obtain a beautiful horn sound from it, and my daughter does imho (at least when her changing teenager mood is on the right side...)
