The only reason I mention shipping the horn and case separate is that I have heard quite a few war stories about the flat-wood cases. If the case is struck where the bell sits, apparently it can do some major damage to the bell. It sounds like I will probably ship the horn in the case, but with a little more padding in there too.

Whenever I've shipped horns, which has been quite a few times, I've always packed the horn in the case with bubble wrap to fill the empty spaces in the case around the instrument. Then I pack the case in a box that is big enough to have a couple of extra inches space around the case and fill the box with styrofoam peanuts as extra padding. This is also how my newest horn was packaged when it was shipped to me from Rayburn's just over a year ago. I've never had a horn damaged this way.

Just a quick question on the best way to ship a horn by mail:

From my understanding and what I've been told, the best way is to ship the case and horn separate, esp. since its a Conn flat case, and the bell can get crumpled pretty easily in there. I'm just curious abotu everyone's experiences with shipping, and if there are some do's and dont's that I should be aware of.
Thanks,
Matt Menger
