And in Ben Hur the Romans spoke English, while the Jews spoke American English, quite a clever distinction. They did similar in a English language Ring production in Saddler Wells Opera in London some thirty or fourty years ago using singers of Welsh (Walis) decent for the gods, American singers for the demi-gods & British for the common people.
