If anyone wants to come down to 911 Media this afternoon regular 2-5
PM lab hours will be in session.
Gabriel Herbertson (long time 911 volunteer and local artist/musician)
and myself are installing Ubuntu (and/or Xubuntu) on the front lobby
G3 iMac's, essentially building an all open source set of computers
for public access during regular staff hours at the center (Tue.- Sat.
Noon-6PM). We got both Ubuntu and Xubuntu running on these G3's last
night and amazingly it runs pretty smoothly even on those 500Mhz
processors.... now for some bench tests to see which flavor works
better on that hardware. My guess is it will be Xubuntu.
