Well, Java is required for Open Office to run, which could be a big perk for folks wanting to do reports or write screenplays or mind-mapping... etc., etc. Also, check out InkScape, it's a vector graphics design program a la Illustrator - less intuitive and less robust than Illustrator, but good for simple logo design.
