Just curious, and trying to pinpoint the problem. Could you try saving/
converting those images as TIFF first, before loading them in Hugin?
As you mentioned, there might be something wrong with loading JPGs
with Hugin on your computer, but does loading TIFF work? If not, Exif
might not be the problem.

If you'd really want to test if Exif is the problem on your computer,
you could also try to strip off the Exif data from the JPG and see
what happens then. A way to do that is to open the image in an image
editor, select all, paste as a new image and save it (of course this
isn't exactly the most sophisticated way).
