I did come checks with strace to this end. On my 32bit Linux, enblend consumes at max 751.45 MB for data space. However, it uses mmap2 for accessing the files to blend, and this consumes another 3927.75 MBytes of RAM. The values for the patched version differ in data space consumption only: it uses 704.77 MBytes. Therefore, I conclude that the -m switch does only limit the use of memory for data space. Depending on the size of the files you try to blend, the total memory footprint can be much higher.
