Good point expressed there Pete!
Though the hum is oppressive in its, mostly low level, but inimitable
way -I'd rather hear it , than NOT - if it IS underhand technology.
The jury is still out, but sniffing furiously...
If it's leakage of EM fields, from whatever, then it becomes more an
irritant- not quite the worry it might otherwise be.
Low freq magnetic fields are reported to be not good for the body  but
I have been in many such fields over the years- some strong enough to
bend scope traces from the surrounding field alone- and I 'm still
kicking along!!
My feeling is the multiplicity of sources possible- coupled with the
publics' general unawareness has helped the military /industrial
establishment along quite nicely, thank you ! [Not]
