Hi guys, first off thanx for sharing a bit about your setup. I'm
addressing you guys specifically 'cuz you both have an a3k, a nord machine,
as well as the rm1x (as do i). I have a couple of questions that i hope you
don't mind answering...
Mark, you mentioned that you're using Logic in the studio. I use Cubase
in the studio, and find it pretty easy for writing midi stuff as it's all
visually right there in front of my face. Do you simply transfer midi files
into rm1x for playback when performing live? In essence, I'm wondering what
the live element is when using song mode live; ie, can you mute and unmute,
arpeggiate, etc?? I've yet to use song mode, so i'm wondering how it's
working for you.
Scott, looks like you're a "pattern" guy, so i'm assuming you do all
your work without being anywhere near a software sequencer. Are there any
merits/demerits when hearing the work, rather than not being able to see it
(kinda like the a3k when determining looping points....ears only)?
Can either of you verify that the a3k lags if it's on higher midi
channels (eg.13-16)? I'm considering using a hefty 9 channels from the rm1x
(various drums/incidental sounds, basic progressions), and then using the
nord for pads, leads (10-12), and finally the a3k for acoustic drums, misc.
samples (13-16). What's working best for you guys in terms of assigning
each of the midi channels to the nord and a3k?
Thanx in advance for your help. So far, i've ended up using the rm1x as
a module, outputting midi clock from Cubase VST....that way i didn't chew up
midi channels. But i'll have to reconfigure everything for playing live and
am still looking for the best solution. Cheers,
