I believe the RM1x only hangs between styles when you have Voice Setup to TG
turned on. (I might be wrong, since I haven't messed around with this that
much.) Anyways, when Voice Setup to TG is activated, the RM1x automatically
changes the voice settings for every track as soon as you switch to a new
style. This uses up a lot of processing power and causes a noticable glitch
when switching between styles. If Voice Setup to TG is set to off however,
when you switch to a new style, all of your tracks will still have the same
voice settings as the style you just left. You can work around this being
manually putting your program changes and controller settings into your
phrases. However, if you simply put all your manual voice setups on the
downbeat of the first pattern of your new style, you'll probably still
experience a lag. The way to work around this is to spread out your program
changes.

Another problem, is that when you switch to a new style, the RM1x stays on
the pattern that you were in on the previous style, i.e., if you where at
Pattern J in User Style 4, and then turned to User Style 5, the RM1x would
start playing Style 5 at Pattern J. A workaround to this is to pre-plan
your set list, and to arrange your songs within the RM1x accordingly. For
example, your first song can use patterns A-O, however you use Pattern P for
your transition Pattern. When you've finished playing your first song,
switch to Pattern P. All of the necessary voice setups for your next song
(Style 2) should be spread throughout Pattern P. Once Pattern P is
finished, switch to Style 2. In Style 2, make sure that your song was laid
out so that Pattern P is the first pattern of the song, and use a differnt
Pattern for the transition pattern. Then follow the same process as you
switch to Style 3. All of this is a lot of work, but it will allow you to
seamlessly play a whole set with just the RM1x in Pattern mode. Personally,
I found this to be too much work, so I just bought a second sequencer to
handle my transitions.

>finally, some of my songs will still be too linear for the pattern mode.
>Any catches to switching between patter and song mode during a live
>performance to look out for?

A pattern in the RM1x can be up to 256 measures long, so you should be able
to sqeeze an entire song into only a couple of patterns.
