Gtk+ 2.0 supports using Xft in its X11 target.  Sometimes you need to
set the environment variable GDK_USE_XFT to 1 before starting Gtk+ 2.0
programs, in order to force them to use Xft.

I'm not sure whether other targets of Gtk+ 2.0 (Win32, framebuffer)
supports Unicode outside of BMP.
