I think it is a good idea, though I am not an expert of XIM.
It would be better if you could modify not only Xutf8LookupString
but also X{mb,wc}LookupString.
And, please, please test with existing XIM servers and existing
XIM clients (not only xterm but also xedit, kterm, rxvt, and so
on because xterm's XIM implementation is somewhat special).
