Min ---------------------------- Department of Geology PhD Research Project on the Cenozoic Evolution of West Java, Indonesia We seek a talented Ph.D. candidate to undertake an exciting research project with global significance investigating the Cenozoic evolution of West Java. The lack of detailed geological information in this part of Indonesia and the complexity of regional correlation hinder understanding of the southern margin of Sundaland and the adjacent, highly productive, hydrocarbon basins. The successful student will be integrated into a well-established and respected research group at Royal Holloway University of London working on Southeast Asian geology. This group has successfully completed three recent Ph.D. studies in Java, with another currently in progress. On-going work in East Java by members of the Southeast Asia Research Group at Royal Holloway has been extremely successful, yielding unexpected and exciting results that require significant re-evaluation of the accepted interpretation of the region's evolution. The student would be expected to build on this active research and contribute to the resolution of these issues by providing new constraint of the subduction and volcanic history of West Java and the associated changes in the on- and off-shore sedimentary record. Full funding for this project is already secured by the Southeast Asia Research Group, and will be available as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
